Pope Francis, meeting with Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas this Saturday at the Vatican, was delighted to be back in Portugal. The Pontiff thanked the young Portuguese for their dedication in preparing for World Youth Day (WYD).
“I want to greet you. They are working hard to prepare this youth meeting. I am happy to be back in Lisbon, in Portugal,” began the Pope, who was in Portugal in 2017.
The leader of the Catholic Church noted the work done by the Portuguese youth in preparation for the WYD, which takes place in Portugal from 1 to 6 August.
“Forgive me for the confusion I am causing you. Thanks for the hospitality. Thank you for instilling hope in this “opening of the heart.” May God bless you and give you the strength to continue your work,” he added.
The meeting between the Mayor and the Pope marked the 100 days left before the start of the global event for young Catholics.
