One of the pilgrims, hit by a driver who later fled the scene of an accident in May 2018 in Moitas Venda, municipality of Alcanena, died on Monday without having triumphed.
Maria Elisa Mendez, who was 80 years old, became paralyzed in an accident caused by the driver and has been in the hospital since May 2018.
More than four years later, the woman responsible for the accident is being tried in a trial that already had a sentencing date but was delayed due to procedural issues.
The 30-year-old defendant is responsible for running over a group of five pilgrims who were walking along the side of the national road 365-4 in Moitas Vende towards the Sanctuary of Fatima, fleeing without assistance to the victims.
Alvaro Mayer, 59, teacher at a school in Coruce, died in a car accident.
