The Portuguese Catholic Church is presenting this Wednesday in Lisbon an organization supporting victims of sexual violence in the church environment, which will work in conjunction with the diocesan commissions for the protection of minors and vulnerable adults.
This project, called Grupo VITA – Monitoring Group on Situations of Sexual Abuse of Children and Vulnerable Adults in the Context of the Catholic Church in Portugal – will be led by psychologist Rute Agulhas, who has so far been a member of the Lisbon Diocesan Commission for the Protection of Minors – and will have time horizon of three years. The presentation is scheduled for 2:30 pm at the Mundial Hotel.
“It will consist of a team of technically competent professionals and will have the mission to welcome, listen, accompany and prevent situations of sexual abuse against children and vulnerable adults in the context of the Church in Portugal, paying attention to victims and perpetrators. “explained the Portuguese Episcopal Conference (CEP) last Thursday when it announced the creation of the VITA group.
