In Cyprus, from November 14 to 18, military exercises called Bold Wings – 2022 were held. This was announced on November 19 by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Cyprus.
The exercise was attended by French special operations forces and Republic of Cyprus National Guard units.
“The scenario of the exercise included various types of individual and group shooting with military weapons, as well as training of personnel to perform parachute jumps in free fall”the ministry said.
The exercises were carried out within the framework of the cooperation agreement in the field of defense between the Republic of Cyprus and France to improve military skills and combat interaction between the armed forces of the two countries.
France is traditionally a military and political ally of the Republic of Cyprus. Joint search and rescue and military exercises are regularly held only in the economic zone of Cyprus. As part of the exercises, the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, the flagship of the French naval forces, calls at the port of Limassol every year.
It should be noted that the defense cooperation agreement between the Republic of Cyprus and France entered into force on August 4, 2020. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the agreement, believing that it was in conflict with the treaties of 1960.
