PSD Summer University Rector and former MEP Carlos Coelho will replace Alvaro Amaro in the European Parliament following the Social Democrat’s resignation following his conviction for tax evasion.
Carlos Coelho was the name that accompanied the PSD candidate list for the European Parliament in the last European elections in May 2019, and a PSD source confirmed to Luce that the Social Democrat had taken over the functions.
In 1994, he became a member of the European Parliament for the first time and served as vice-president of the Committee for Regional Policy, Spatial Planning and Relations with Local Authorities. Carlos Coelho returned to Brussels in 1998, replacing Antonio Capucho at the time, being re-elected the following year and serving as an MEP until 2019.
