The joint U.S.-Philippines military exercise Balikatan 2023 has officially ended, Commander-in-Chief Gen. Andrés Centino said April 29 during a closing ceremony at Camp Aguinaldo.
The exercise reportedly included four main activities: command post exercise, cyber defense exercise, field exercise, and humanitarian civil assistance. During the final operation, the intruder ship was scuttled.
According to Centino, during the exercise it became clear that there were delays in coordination issues. “But these delays are tolerable, they are easy to fix”, he emphasized. Besides “we still have some things that we can change and improve”added the Commander in Chief.
It should be noted that the ceremony was attended by the head of the Philippine exercises, Major General Marvin Likudin, and the head of the US exercises, the commander of the US Marine Forces in the Pacific, Lieutenant General William Jurney. Additionally, Philippine Secretary of Defense Carlito Galvez Jr. and US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson confirmed the status of the event with their presence.
Let us remember that the 2023 exercises began on April 11. Earlier, the United States announced the need to increase cooperation with the South China Sea countries to contain China.
