French rider Fabio Cuartararo (Yamaha) has justified a crash this Sunday at the Spanish MotoGP Grand Prix that forced Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) to retire with a dislocated shoulder in an attempt to “survive the corner”.
“I didn’t try to overtake, I just survived the turn. [Marco] Bezzeki on the right and Miguel [Oliveira] Left. I played on Bezecca and Miguel’s bikes, but only because I didn’t have the space. You just had to try to make a turn,” explained the Frenchman.
As such, Quartararo says “there was no reason for the penalty” for the long lap that was attributed to him.
On the side of RNF Aprilia, a team in which the Portuguese driver, founder Razlan Razali, believes that this was “another Grand Prix to be forgotten.”
“After a good result in the sprint race on Saturday, we expected a similar result from Miguel in the main race, but, unfortunately, he had an accident with Fabio Quartararo and Marco Besecchi, as a result of which he was injured,” he stressed.
The Malaysian believes that “the good news is that he has no broken bones, just a dislocated shoulder.”
“It was an unfortunate racing incident, we don’t think the drivers had any bad intentions,” said the RNF manager.
RNF sporting director Vilko Zelenberg considers this “a sad [Oliveira] is always deduced from the test.
“After showing great pace all weekend, being knocked out after two corners is very disappointing,” he stressed, before heading to the hospital to inquire about the Portuguese’s physical condition and see if he can “do in the next round.” . .
