According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), twenty municipalities in the districts of Faro, Portalegre, Santarém and Castelo Branco pose a very high rural fire risk this Monday.
IPMA placed the municipalities of Masao, Vila Nova de Barquinha, Abrantes, Chamusca, Constancia, Sardoal in the district of Santarém, and the municipalities of Vila Velha de Rodan and Proença a Nova in the district of Castelo Branco. under this notice.
The municipalities of Marvão, Portalegre, Castelo de Vide, Nisa and Gavian in the district of Portalegre, as well as the municipalities of Monchique, Lagos, Portimão, Silves, Loulé, Tavira and Sant Bras de Alportel are also at very high risk of fire. About 60 other municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Vila Real, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Leiria, Portalegre, Santarém, Lisbon, Beja and Faro are at risk of fire.
The fire risk defined by IPMA has five levels: from minimum to maximum.
Calculations are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and precipitation over the past 24 hours.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere predicts partly cloudy weather for today, with temporary cloudiness on the coast north of Cabo Raso until mid-morning.
The wind will generally be light from several directions, blowing moderately from the N/NW to the west coast, especially in the afternoon, and occasionally strong from the north quadrant in the highlands until mid-morning and late afternoon.
Forecasts also indicate the possibility of fog or morning fog on the northern and central coasts and a slight increase in maximum temperature.
Maximum temperatures will range from 23 degrees Celsius in Viana do Castelo, Porto and Viseu to 32 degrees in Santarem, Beja and Évora.
