The president of the Portuguese Association of Insurers, Galamba de Oliveira, said on Wednesday that insurance should be mandatory for bicycles, namely scooters.
Galamba de Oliveira spoke in Aveiro on the sidelines of the “Safe Micromobility” conference organized by the Portuguese Association of Insurers (APS) as part of a series of conferences to be held in different parts of the country under the general theme “Insurance in a Changing World”.
“There is a problem with the legal framework for the protection of this type of mobility and I understand that in Portugal we must develop and make compulsory insurance for soft mobility, which, on the one hand, guarantees the protection of the driver, but also guarantees some provisions for civil liability to third parties,” he said.
