An insurance intermediary in Figueira da Foz created a fake financial product that it says cost four customers €328,000 in a case being investigated by the State Ministry.
Speaking to Lusa agency, Paulo Pinto, a 38-year-old insurance intermediary and former chairman of the parish council of Paian, a city in the south of this coastal municipality in the district of Coimbra, confirmed the creation of a counterfeit financial instrument. , which used the “symbol” Liberty Seguros “I bet on the sheet” and a name similar to that of an insurance company.
He claimed that the proceeds of about 328 thousand euros, collected by the fund over 10 years, “between 2009 and 2019”, were invested in his company.
Becoming “one of the greatest” mediators – as he defined himself – from Liberty Seguros, at the same time he was chairman of the parish council of Payan, a city in the south of the municipality of Figueira da Foz. , district of Coimbra, Paulo Pinto began by justifying the creation of the foundation by saying that he was “forced to grow” in his activities.
In a conversation with the Lusa agency, accompanied by his lawyer Joaquim Malafay, the mediator mentioned pressure from “above”, opening offices (he had four in the municipalities of Figueira da Foz and Pombal) and hiring staff at the same time he became “too involved in municipal life.”
