The German federal authorities called the requirement to wear masks the “gentle remedy” for the corona pandemic, but could not answer the question of whether they were effective, writes the BILD newspaper on May 3.
MP Wolfgang Kubicki (FDP) submitted an MP application and requested information on the results of studies on the effectiveness of masks during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Federal Ministry of Health, headed by Karl Lauterbach (SPD), responded to the deputy’s request as follows: ︎ “In general, the effectiveness of individual measures (for example, the requirement to wear masks) cannot be verified in isolation, but only in combination with other measures taken during the corresponding investigation.”
“After three years of the pandemic and months of mandatory mask wearing in schools, buses, trains, theaters, supermarkets and just about anywhere people gather, the federal government still can’t say which it did first?”– Lidia Rosenfelder, BILD correspondent, is surprised.
Having received such a response from the Ministry of Health, MP Kubicki said: “The response of the Federal Ministry of Health shows with terrifying frankness that the Robert Koch Institute has not fulfilled its legal mandate.”
It is noted that the RCT is obliged to verify each measure to determine its effectiveness (proportionality).
