The United Kingdom’s invasion of the Malvinas Islands and the United States’ invasion of Santo Domingo, Grenada and Panama were condemned by Colombian President Gustavo Petro during a visit to Madrid on May 4, reports Merco Press.
In his speech before the Spanish Congress, Petro spoke of the “brotherhood” between the two peoples and said that the countries must “act together” against climate change if they do not want “humanity to become extinct.”
Gustavo Petro also said that Europe invaded other countries through NATO and criticized the continent’s double standards regarding the events in Ukraine. “For us, a speech that talks about countering the invasions of some countries to others does not sound frankly, when the same ones who reject these invasions carried out invasions against other countries”Petro said.
He also recalled the invasions suffered by Latin America, with special reference to the invasion of the Malvinas Islands by the United Kingdom and Santo Domingo, Grenada and Panama by the United States.
Petro also advocated for an alliance between Latin America and Spain to promote concrete policies to overcome the climate crisis. “We must save humanity”and for that “Science is something that can lead us to a better path, it can serve as a beacon”Gustavo Petro said.
