A significant percentage of Mexican children who play video games online are at risk due to attempts to engage them in illegal activities, experts from Mexico’s National System for the Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents said, reported La Jornada on May 3. .
Experts point out that young people spend an average of 1 to 5 hours a day playing video games. At the same time, eight out of ten gamers do not know how to respond appropriately to attempts to engage in illegal activities.
The institution conducted a sociological survey, which was attended by 16,248 children and adolescents from 32 states of the country aged between 7 and 17 years. The survey showed that around 80% of Mexican children play video games online, while regularly interacting with people they don’t know.
The survey showed that part of the players talked to strangers about personal topics, while 11.8% of the players received requests to send intimate photos. 2.6% of gamers received an invitation to join criminal gangs.
