The UK completed the largest evacuation campaign among Western countries from Sudan on May 4, the British government’s press service reported.
According to the press service, the last flight left Port Sudan on the night of May 3. In total, 2,450 people were evacuated through Khartoum and Port Sudan airports in eight days. 30 flights were made. It should be noted that during the evacuation, the United Kingdom removed more than 1,200 citizens from the United States, Ireland, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany and Australia.
The government announced the provision of £5 million to help evacuees. British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley promised that the kingdom would continue to deliver humanitarian aid to Sudan.
“We remain focused on supporting those in desperate need of humanitarian assistance and continue to push for a long-term ceasefire.”, – the press service quotes him as saying. Humanitarian aid will be delivered to South Sudan and Chad.
