Singer Ed Sheeran acquitted of plagiarism in ‘Thinking Out Loud’

This Thursday, British singer Ed Sheeran was acquitted of plagiarizing the melody of Mary Gay’s “Let’s Get It On” when launching the “Thinking Out Loud” theme, which was a big hit in 2014.

U.S. Manhattan federal court jury finds ‘Let’s Get It On’ co-writer Ed Townsend’s heirs failed to prove musician Ed Sheeran infringed copyright, reveals Reuters.

“It’s terrible when you’re accused of stealing someone’s song when you’re working so hard to make a living,” the songwriter said as he left court after the verdict.

“I want to thank the jury for a decision that will help protect the creative process of songwriters here in the United States and around the world,” Sheeran added.

The verdict was known after six days of trial and took less than three hours to reach.
