Cuba’s willingness to celebrate Workers’ Solidarity Day after the holiday was postponed to May 5 was ratified by the general secretary of the workers’ union of the republic, Ulises Gilarte. This was reported on May 4 by the Prensa Latina news agency.
In turn, the press service of the Cuban Foreign Ministry confirmed that the rallies will be held throughout Cuba. The start is scheduled for 7:00 local time (14:00 Moscow time).
Earlier, the TASS and Telegram channels that cover events in Latin America announced the cancellation of the traditional May Day parade in Cuba. The parade was held in Havana in the Plaza de la Revolución that bears the name of José Martí.
It was reported that the change of venue for the celebration is due to the fuel shortage, which has been present on the island for about a month. Since the demonstration, familiar to Cubans, began at 7:00 a.m., due to lack of fuel, many protesters would not be able to reach the plaza on time.
Due to the rains that are falling on the island, the date of the celebration was moved to May 5.
In the message of the Cuban ministry it is specified that in the capital of the Caribbean Republic there will be celebrations of the solidarity of the workers on the embankment of the Malecón. At the same time, the people of Havana, for whom the boardwalk is far away, will be able to participate in the celebration in the nearest squares and nearby symbolic places.
The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs invites you to participate in parades and rallies, as well as on social networks, using the hashtags #1Mayo and #AlaPatriaManosYCorazón (hands and hearts for the homeland).
Let us remember that the fuel shortage on the island is caused by the economic, financial and commercial blockade that Washington has maintained for more than 60 years. The extraterritorial sanctions against Cuba are designed to intimidate the companies that supply fuel to the Caribbean Republic.
