President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa broke his silence this Thursday after he disagreed with Prime Minister António Costa’s decision to keep Joao Galamba as Minister of Infrastructure. “How can a minister not be responsible for an employee of the nearest team? How can this minister not be responsible for strange and unfortunate situations?” he begins with a question.
“It’s not about just apologizing for what happened, it’s about paying for what you did or didn’t do. Politics don’t mix with justice, you don’t erase yourself saying it’s over, it’s not over,” says Marcelo, whoHe now criticizes the issues of “clear conscience” that led António Costa to not accept Galamba’s resignation.
“It was because of all this that I realized that the Minister of Infrastructure needed to be rehabilitated,” he clarifies. “There was a fundamental difference in all this” with António Costa, he explains. Not about the “personality and qualities” of the Minister of Infrastructure, but about the “responsibility, authority and authority of the minister, the government and the state.”
“Before, you could always hit the needle, but not this time. Sorry,” he says. The responsibility of the rulers “was not assumed as it should have been,” says the President of the Republic.
The Portuguese need “politicians who solve everyday problems.” Marcelo warns that he will be “more attentive and involved in everyday life.”
“Don’t count on me to create these conflicts institutional. We all know what these conflicts were like and how they ended in the past,” he shoots.
It should be recalled that we are talking about the controversy of former Deputy Minister Frederico Pinheiro, who accuses Joao Galamba of hiding information from the TAP commission of inquiry. Joao Galamba denied all accusations and resigned, but António Costa did not accept it.
PSD reaction
“A government that does not take responsibility is a government that loses its credibility. We at the SDP respect the conclusions made by the President and stress the need for increased vigilance in this government. If political instability arises in connection with the elections, in Portugal this instability is associated with the prime minister and the government,” says Hugo Soares.
Reaction of the Liberal Initiative
“The vision of the future presented by the President of the Republic completely contradicts the diagnosis he made today to the government. The Prime Minister linked his political fate with Joao Galamba. We believe that it is impossible to continue this degradation.” Rui Rocha says.
PAN reaction
“Now it’s not enough to swear. This instability must end. It was António Costa who decided to keep Joao Galamba, he decided to devalue the episode,” says Ines Souza Real.
Reaction Enough
“What is certain is that Marcelo Rebelo de Souza trusted someone who cannot be trusted. The President of the Republic should have gone further. He had to end this government today. This is a tattered government that does not inspire confidence in the country.” says Pedro Pinto.
free reaction
“In order to get out of this political crisis, the government has to take steps, and the president has had to take additional steps. What happened was a government cursed by an absolute majority,” says Rui Tavares.
PCP reaction
“Stability is also the stability of people’s lives. We think the situation is very serious,” says Paula Santos.
Left bloc reaction
“Today we know that we do not trust either the government or the President of the Republic to show the country the solutions the people need. All governments that do not respond to people are governments in the long run,” says Mariana Mortagua.
