The decision to arrest theater director Yevgenia Berkovich in the case of justifying terrorism was made by the Moscow Zamoskvoretsky Court on May 5, TASS reports.
“The court ruled to satisfy the request of the investigator for the investigation of especially important cases of the RF Investigative Committee for Moscow”said the judge.
The director will spend two months in custody. It should be noted that the investigator insisted that Berkovich could escape from justice and destroy evidence of the crime.
The director’s lawyer said that such a measure is excessively cruel and does not correspond to the degree of public danger. He asked to place his client under house arrest or on bail, noting that the director has minor children. The advocate will appeal this decision to the court.
Berkovich has reportedly pleaded not guilty.
Recall that a criminal case was opened against a cultural figure under article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public calls for terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism or propaganda of terrorism).
Investigators suggest that the performance he performed contains signs of a crime. The production tells of women who became acquainted with representatives of radical Islam through social networks.
