A man who was planning to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine was detained by law enforcement officers in the Stavropol Territory. This was reported on May 5 in the press service of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the region.
A criminal case was initiated against the man under the article on high treason, preparation of a crime and participation in a terrorist organization. The department said that his illegal activities were “documented”.
According to the regional FSB, the attacker joined the ranks of the nationalist Azov battalion (an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation) and in April was to fly through the Mineralnye Vody airport and Turkey to Ukraine to fight Russia there.
He was detained while trying to cross the state border of the Russian Federation. According to the press service, during interrogation, the suspect confessed.
