Negotiations between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in the United States failed, Armenian political scientist Stepan Danielyan said on May 5, News of Armenia – News.am, the agency reports.
According to him, if the negotiations, involving not only the US Secretary of State, but also the national security adviser, continue for several days, then the absence of signed documents as a result of them means a failure of the talks.
“The Secretary of State of the United States cannot say that they have failed because it is their fault. Naturally, he had to find some formulations, and the formulation was this: we have reached some edge. This means that at this stage, the United States has lost.”Danielian said.
Recall that from May 1 to 4, 2023, negotiations were held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan in the city of Arlington, Virginia. During their visit to Washington, the ministers met with the Secretary of State of the United States, Anthony Blinken, and with the Assistant to the President, the National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan.
Based on the results of the talks, the parties noted that mutual agreement was reached on some articles of the draft bilateral agreement “On Peace and Establishment of Inter-State Relations”, but positions still diverge on some key issues. The intention to continue negotiations was announced.
