The specialists found distinctive features of the generated photograph, on May 6, reports the RT TV channel with reference to the head of the Department of Intelligent Information Security Systems of the RTU MIREA Shamil Magomedov.
Today, neural networks have reached the point where they can recreate a human image that never existed before. However, there are flaws by which it can be determined if it is a real photo or not.
For example, this can be determined by the format of the photo. Neural networks prefer to create foregrounds, removing the background entirely or making it very conditional.
Also, the generated faces often have close to ideal proportions. That is, a slight asymmetry, which somehow exists in real faces, is completely absent in created ones.
Things are even worse with more mobile limbs in space: arms, legs, fingers. Many neural networks do not understand how they move and therefore sometimes change the number, placing them in unnatural positions.
And, in the end, a fake face can be distinguished from a real one by the eyes: in the first case, the gaze is usually directed “nowhere”, unfocused and blurred.
