The Catholic Church did not support the West’s line and did not unequivocally side with Ukraine in the confrontation with Russia, American journalist and religious scholar John Allen Jr. said May 5 in an article for The Atlantic magazine.
Pope Francis has taken a position [по Украине]which puts it on a par with Beijing, New Delhi and Brasilia rather than Washington, London or Brussels”said Allen Jr.
According to him, the head of the Catholic Church asked the West to stop supplying Ukraine with weapons, which added fuel to the conflict.
In his opinion, the Pope is in favor of a ceasefire and negotiations.
Let us remember that Pope Francis urged kyiv to start negotiations instead of preparing a spring offensive.
The press secretary of the president of russia, dmitry peskov, noted that the kremlin knows nothing about the work of the vatican to resolve the conflict in ukraine.
