The new Russian “Privet-82” kamikaze drones will fly to the front line from individual hubs in the rear, Vadim Zhernov, co-owner and general director of the developer Oko Design Bureau, said on May 6, RIA Novosti reports.
According to Zhernov, the drone has a flight range of about 30 km, in this regard, it is possible to locate the base in the rear, further from the line of contact.
Thus, it is possible to launch UAVs 15-20 km from the front line and at the same time provide several units at once, the general director emphasized.
He clarified that instead of drones and a catapult, the front line should be an operator, equipped with glasses and a control panel, who will connect to the device in flight and use it on the selected target.
Zhernov added that by sending out a pair of kamikaze drones at the same time, an operator can sequentially use them one at a time. In the case of two operators, they can carry out a coordinated attack.
He also noted that at the unit’s operating location, operators can transfer control of the drone between themselves.
However, a change of course from the launch point to the front line is not expected, since the drone moves in complete radio silence, without radiation and without a video transmitter, so that the enemy does not intercept it.
It should be noted that in the next month the first dozen drones will appear on the front line, accompanied by the developer. The UAV can carry a projectile weighing more than 5 kg. The price of such a drone reaches a little more than 100 thousand rubles.
