Representatives of the Iranian and Iraqi governments discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the energy and water sectors, the Mehr news agency reported on May 6.
Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian arrived in Baghdad at the head of a delegation. He met and held talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani.
The parties discussed joint cooperation and strategies to solve the problems facing the energy sector, both regionally and internationally, and negotiated the supply of Iranian electricity to Iraq’s national grid.
In addition, during the negotiations, the issue of water scarcity and the impact of drought on water quotas in common rivers was raised.
The representative of Iraq stressed the importance of dialogue and coordination between the two countries. Likewise, according to him, investing in the political stability of the region serves the interests and aspirations of all brother and friendly peoples.
