Former President of the Republic Cavaco Silva wrote on Tuesday in a Europe Day publication by the PSD delegation to the European Parliament that he hopes European funds will be “used to power the economy.”
“We hope that the European funds of unprecedented size that are being sent to Portugal are used to ensure economic growth in the region of 3-4% per year, and not just money thrown by the government on problems without solving them,” maybe read in the publication “ Letter from Europe.
Cavaco Silva also notes that the European Union is gaining “growing relevance in the face of new geopolitical and geo-economic challenges and uncertainties.”
“It is urgent to strengthen the strategic, energy, scientific and technical autonomy of Europe, freeing the European bloc from any dependence on politically unreliable countries. We all need a united and living Europe,” added the former president of the republic.
