French police have uncovered 44 websites selling fake tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympics, the head of cybersecurity said on Thursday.
In an interview with BFMTV, Mark Boget said that in addition to 44 websites, 26 social media posts were also identified that facilitated the illegal sale of tickets for the Games, which will be held from July 26 to August 11.
Boget, who leads a team of 200 agents to fight online Olympics scams, explained that these are fraudulent sales attempts, not resales, and that the prices offered are “three or four times higher than usual.”
Mark Boget assured that cybersecurity is a priority issue for the organizers of the Olympic Games, noting that during the Tokyo 2020 Games, held in 2021 and behind closed doors, 70,000 cyber attacks were recorded.
