A Russian teacher has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison for posting on social media critical of the war and President Vladimir Putin. Nikita Tushkanov was found guilty of terrorist activities and repeated “discrediting” of the Russian army.
The 29-year-old man called the October explosion of the Crimean bridge “Putler’s gift”, pejoratively linking the Russian leader to Adolf Hitler. Tushkanov went on to write that the attack was “the revenge of Putin’s fascism.”
According to Reuters, which quotes the interlocutor of the professor, the process went to court, and the meeting lasted no more than ten minutes. Alexandra Kochanova said that her boyfriend believes that he must resolve issues with which he does not agree and which are contrary to his principles.
In addition to imprisonment, Nikita Tushkanov is prohibited from accessing the Internet for the next three years.
Russia introduced new censorship laws from the start of the war in Ukraine until February 2022. The “media” has already reported several cases of criminal prosecution of citizens for speaking out against the war and Russian troops.
