GNR soldiers are outraged by statements made by Carlos Barbosa, organizer of Rally Portugal and President of the ACP, about holding the race next year because of the amounts paid to the guards.
“The ACP President’s statements are shameful, irresponsible and at the very least require him to retract. It is that, apart from the millions that he manages and which the ACP certainly suits, this is only possible thanks to the excellent work of the GNR specialists who cannot work for free! It should be noted that GNR specialists perform this service after regular maintenance, almost always working 24 hours, without rest and in unstable conditions,” the Association of Guards Professionals said in a statement.
At stake are the statements of Carlos Barbosa this Friday before sports television, in which he complained about the amounts paid to members of the GNR. “Don’t talk to me about the military, they stand a little crazy. It is the only country in the world where the military is paid. They cost a fortune,” said the president of Automóvel Clube de Portugal.
The edition of Rally Portugal 2023 runs from 13 to 14 May and qualifies for the World Championship.
