Equatorial Guinea Vice-President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue has announced an end to the country’s Marburg virus outbreak, which has resulted in 17 laboratory-confirmed cases and 23 deaths that have been deemed probable.
“After the 21 days prescribed by WHO, no Marburg infections were registered. [Organização Mundial da Saúde] and after the excellent work and results obtained in the fight against and containment of this virus: today I announced [segunda-feira] end of Marburg virus in Equatorial Guinea,” Nguema tweeted.
According to WHO, in Equatorial Guinea, up to April 20, 12 deaths were registered among laboratory-confirmed cases with a mortality rate of 75%. Four of the confirmed cases have recovered, and what happened to the other infected is unknown.
