Forty-five people were injured this Saturday in a violent collision between two passenger buses in the center of the Brazilian city of Curitiba, capital of the state of Parana, in the south of the country. Of these, 15 people were hospitalized in serious condition at local hospitals late in the afternoon, but only one of them was at risk of death.
The clash took place on the corner between Avenida Visconde de Guarapuava and Travessa da Lapa, in the old center of the elegant capital of Paraná. According to preliminary information, the accident occurred with a two-piece bus on the Fazenda Rio Grande-Curitiba line after the driver fell ill and lost control.
A large apparatus of firefighters and SAMU, a mobile emergency service, were sent to the scene of the incident. In addition to the people who required hospital treatment, others with only minor injuries refused treatment or received help from rescuers on the street and then continued on in other groups.
