The 53-year-old man was rescued from the fishing boat he was on this Saturday afternoon by an Air Force helicopter 19 kilometers off the coast near Portimao.
The alarm was received around 1:35 p.m. because the victim urgently required medical attention. According to a statement from the Air Force, which CM had access, the man was flown to Faro Airport by an EH-101 Merlin helicopter from 751 Squadron – “Pumas”, taking off from Air Base No. 6 in Montijo.
The rescue operation lasted approximately 2 hours 50 minutes and was coordinated by the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) together with the Lisbon Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) of the Air Force.
After the transfer was completed, around 16:35, the patient was transported overland to the hospital department.
