Patrols, controls and inspections on major national roads, especially access roads to the south of the country, have been intensified from this Friday to Sunday, the GNR said in a statement.
The Republican National Guard (GNR) Operation “Hermes – Travel in Safety” 2024, which starts this Friday, targets the most critical periods and routes in the GNR’s area of responsibility and aims to prevent road accidents, particularly with regard to two-wheeled vehicles.
The three days of increased patrols coincide with the World Superbike Championships at the Algarve-Portimao International Circuit and an increase in two-wheeler traffic is expected.
The main objective of the operation, the GNR statement explained, is to improve road safety, ensure smooth traffic flow and provide support to road users, as well as to raise awareness among two-wheeler riders about the dangers of reckless driving and failure to wear helmets, appropriate clothing and footwear.
