PSP seizes animals and plants during an environmental operation

Earlier this week, the PSP seized 46 species of indigenous and 16 exotic species of fauna and flora as part of an operation to protect and preserve the environment, it was announced on Friday.

In a statement issued following Operation Planet Azul, carried out across the country on Monday and Tuesday, the PSP also said it had identified 64 violations.

1 protocol on crimes against nature, 43 protocols on administrative offenses in the field of environmental protection and 20 protocols on administrative offenses in various fields were drawn up. News reports function as complaints to the Department of Justice.

The operation, as explained in the PSP statement, was aimed at strengthening oversight of compliance with the law regarding the conditions for the reception and treatment of animals (companion animals and protected species), as well as regarding the provision of water quality and the protection of water resources.

Recalling that damaging nature is a crime punishable by up to five years in prison, the PSP warned against purchasing (or welcoming) an animal or plant, especially in the case of wild and non-native species, unless they are a protected species in the first place. or are in danger of extinction.

The operation was carried out by the Brigades for Environmental Protection (BRIPA), which has been involved in an animal welfare project since 2015, specifically dedicated to the protection of domestic animals.
