Want to dive back into Middle-earth? Two cinemas in German-speaking Switzerland make it possible in December. In the meantime, for the most persistent, a hearty Swiss premiere is taking place in Bruges.
Full roar of middle earth
In 2001, 2002 and 2003, December was dedicated to the film adaptation of Peter Jackson. Lord of the Rings. The three fantasy spectacles thrilled the masses, and hardcore fans later received extended versions on DVD, Blu-ray and, last year, 4K discs. Return of the King the extended version lasts over four hours. These longer versions will be shown as a marathon in two German-speaking Swiss cinemas in December. By the way, the ticket price for the ABC Marathon in Bülach (CHF 50) includes a bottomless popcorn cup that can be refilled over and over again for free. The background, however, is a bit more pleasing. At the end of December, two cinemas in Bülach (ABC and Bambi) will close. FROM Lord of the Rings but on December 10 those responsible tore it apart again.

Horror hit from USA in Brugg
It was a hit at its premiere at FrightFest and subsequent US releases. Horror 2 like a bomb. The slasher game Art the Clown was a hit, grossing over $11 million to date on a budget of just under $250,000. The film will be screened in Switzerland for the first time on 2 December in Brugg.

Anime classic in Basel
More and more anime movies are showing (again) in theaters. In addition to the classics released through The Ones We Love (Spirited Away in Zurich and Akira in Lucerne) or the new Ani-Wednesday in Bern, Stadtkino Basel also shows some classics – and a Swiss premiere. In addition to three of Satoshi Kon’s four films, two hits from Studio Ghibli and cyberpunk classics. Akira as well as Ghost in armor also launch the (still) latest Makoto Shinkai movie Weathering with you such as Inu-Oh Masaki Yuasa (The night is short, go girl), which does not yet have an official start date in Switzerland.

Frances McDormand Retrospective in Zurich
After Rex in Bern dedicated a retrospective to four-time Oscar winner Frances McDormand over the summer, Xenix in Zurich now also pays tribute to the outstanding actress. Retro in December offers the opportunity to do so The Man Who Wasn’t There, Burn after reading, Blood is simple as well as Fargo four of the Coen brothers’ films can again be seen on the same screen.

Marathon “Chugger”
From December 18 the second season Chugger can be seen on SRF 1. Two days earlier, you can watch the entire first and second seasons of the Swiss hit series on the big screen at Cosmos in Zurich and Bourbaki in Lucerne. The creators of the series are present.
