original version

You are young and full of talent, and summer holidays are just around the corner! Children come from all over and look forward to getting closer to their dream of theater at a somewhat seedy theater camp in upstate New York. But this year is different! Joan (Amy Sedaris), the camp’s stalwart founder, has fallen into a coma. Her unsuspecting son and copycat influencer Troy (Jimmy Tatro) must step in to keep the camp running and save it from impending financial ruin.

Along with slightly crazy teachers Amos (Ben Platt) and Rebecca-Diane (Molly Gordon) and production director Glenn (Noah Galvin), Troy goes above and beyond. In order to save their beloved theater camp from bankruptcy, they decide to put on a spectacular performance on stage with their children. But before the curtain goes up on the night of the premiere, one problem or another must be solved in order for the show to be a complete success.

theater camp was one of the biggest hits at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2023. After several sold-out performances, each of which drew applause at the end, Searchlight Pictures secured the rights to the comedy for $8 million. Since Searchlight has been part of Disney for several years now, the chances of the film ever being seen on Swiss screens have increased. Now it’s been confirmed. theater camp will open in cinemas in Switzerland and Germany on September 7, 2023. As recently announced, the film will have its Swiss premiere on 11 August 2023 at Piazza Grande in Locarno.
