Last year, ITV’s live streaming site, the ITV Hub, ruined a summer evening for millions across the country. It was June 28th (yes, I remember the date) and France were playing Switzerland in an exciting Euro 2020 game. But more importantly, the seventh episode began that night. Island of love. In my home, where we have eschewed traditional television and relied on streaming through various newfangled technologies, it was ITV Hub’s night to shine. Inevitably, ITV and ITV2 streams dropped several times, and I’ve had trust issues with the hub ever since.
Notoriously unreliable and, frankly, total junk, it’s no surprise that ITV wants to get rid of it.
Broadcaster ITVX’s shiny new streaming service launches this Thursday. With its cool new light green logo and easy-to-navigate website (reminiscent of another streaming site that starts with “N” and ends with “etflix”), ITVX is the icing on the cake for a new era for ITV, which it also recently renamed its main ITV channel back to ITV1. It doesn’t matter that the new service has been running for several weeks now and is essentially the same as the ITV Hub but with more exclusive shows… it’s a fresh start!
We have an ITV hub with a wig. The same back catalog of the show is here (worth 10,000 hours if you have time) by Billie Piper. The secret diary of a call girl to a psychological thriller Marcella to my 90s guilt football players’ wives.
There are still ads interrupting shows on demand and you can still stream ITV channels live. There is still the option to pay for the ad-free version at £5.99/month or £59.99/year, which also gives you access to the BritBox library and allows you to download programs to play offline (which you have to pay ) . because such a privilege is outrageous, if you ask me).
What sets it apart is the impressive array of shows that premiere on the service long before they move to traditional linear TV.
On Thursday, we can pit Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce against each other like two MI5 spies. Spy among friendsa mock argument between agents Nicholas Elliott and his longtime friend Kim Philby, who turned out to be an undercover spy who leaked information to the Soviets during the Cold War.
Sarah Collins’ bestselling book will also premiere on Thursday. Confessions of Franny Langtontense, gripping crime drama and tell me everythingbrilliant version Shellsreflecting the mental health concerns of young Britons. None of them are particularly groundbreaking, but neither are they bad—definitely better than 90 percent of the crap that more popular streaming services produce.
Every Thursday welcomes the arrival of a new series. David Tennant is great Litvinenkothe upcoming drama about the poisoning of a former FSB officer, which will air from December 15th. resources (Thursday 22 December) was promoted as a black version in the UK. successorand while it’s very lavish, it’s still a glamorous soap tale about how money exacerbates family tensions. nollyPortrait of Russell T Davies overlap Star Noel Gordon, played by Helena Bonham Carter, and without sindirector’s crime drama required stringVicki McClure completes the drama proposal.
Of course, there are many reasons to be excited, although the viewing experience can be very different. ITV CEO Carolyn McCall promises that ITVX will be “powered by an integrated technology and data platform that delivers high-quality and more personalized viewing and advertising”…whatever that means.
Only time will tell if I can stream Island of love next summer no problem.
