What’s the matter?

In a flashback, Traxus Burman (Amar Chadha-Patel) tells Princess Kit (Ruby Kruse) the story of the magical Chimerian breastplate that once enabled Tuulu’s rightful heir to defeat his enemies. Many years ago, Madmartigan went with his squire Burman in search of a powerful item that, according to myth, makes its owner invulnerable and protects Elora Danan (Ellie Bamber) from the forces of evil. However, unlike Burman, Madmartigan never returned from this quest.

When the group realizes that Elora has disappeared, they go looking for Commander Ballantine (Ralph Ineson), who has captured her and plans to kidnap her. Jade (Erin Kellyman) immediately realizes that her former mentor is no longer himself and is under the control of dark forces. As Ballantine and his minions leave, Elora is able to break free and escape into the woods, where she meets two energetic forest women who are happy to help her.

Meanwhile, the rest of Willow’s group has a nervous breakdown. Boorman and Kit decide to find a magical key for the Chimerian breastplate, and in the process they run into some special bugs. When Ballantine and his minions have returned their power to Elor and meet the heroes again, the decisive battle begins in the rain.

How it was?

Let’s be honest: who still knew what a cuirass is? This is a breastplate, and it should protect Elora Danan from the forces of evil. We’re getting some information as to why Mudmartigan went on the road in the first place, though: Boorman is a guy who can’t be trusted with Six Feet, so any information from him should be treated with great caution.

In general, there is still much that is not fully understood. For example, what about Willow’s magical powers? On the one hand, he brings out all the guns in a big showdown in the rain and gives his opponents a lot of acid, on the other hand, he holds back as much as possible. We may be curious that he saw in his visions that he should save his magical powers in case of emergency. It also raises the question of how Graydon knows so much about evil magic and possessed people.

The third episode offers a real roller coaster ride that, in addition to slower moments (breaking down with a wheel change), also has adventurous scenes such as a grave robbery in which Keith and Boorman have to deal with wererats that look like somewhere between RVAG as well as rat monkey stand.

And the third episode also features a celebrity guest role in the 1st episode, in which famous actors make a brief stop on the series. Hannah Waddingham, who we portray as nasty football club owner Rebecca Welton in Ted Lasso know. She plays Hubert, impartial and even for willow a surprisingly anachronistic-looking woman in jeans who lives with her friend like some cowboy (cowgirl?) in the woods and immediately wants to put her ax in the service of Elora Danan. These scenes also show well how the simple idea of Elora plays a role for the common people of this world. Elora gives them hope for a peaceful future. Unfortunately, that future is still a long way off, which Hubert and Ann must realize right now as well.

Brief summary of the third episode

Now that we not only know Elora Danan’s identity, but also know that she actually has magical powers, the show can finally begin. In the third episode, rags fly, and after car chases, grave robberies, and a supposed respite in the woods, a spectacular showdown takes place in the middle of a raging thunderstorm. The series manages to balance funny moments with gripping scenes, while also pushing for the formation and further development of the characters and relationships between them. This is done confidently and creates a good atmosphere, which then also ends with a cool cover of “Enter Sandman”.

Did you know that…?

… Hannah Waddingham and I have not only since Ted Lasso know? Of course, fantasy fans know her for her unforgettable supporting role as Septa Unella in game of Throneswhich also led to the famous “Shame!” meme.

… Ellie Bamber and Erin Kellyman earlier in the miniseries Outcasts performed together? They played Cosette and Eponine.
