Charlie (Brendan Fraser) weighs almost 700 pounds. A few years ago, he came out as gay, but left his ex-wife and teenage daughter Ellie (Sadie Sink) for a mistress. When he died, he literally ate his disappointment – the kilograms went up, and the will to live faded away. Now he wants to reconcile with his 17-year-old daughter, who no longer wants anything to do with him before it’s too late.
Last weekend WHALE was released in six theaters in the United States and achieved fantastic results there. $360,000 came together, which is $60,000 per screen. This is the highest average achieved this year. After rave screenings at film festivals in Venice, Toronto and London, the hype finally made its way to the box office. And we are spinning too. In our Venice review, we called the film a real hit.
We still have to wait until March 9, 2023 for a theatrical release in German-speaking Switzerland, but there are high expectations in that country as well. Our poll of the most anticipated films of 2023 has WHALE currently in an excellent eighth place.
