Superman is dead! Long live Superman! Co-director and director James Gunn is writing the script for a new Superman movie. Superman himself, Henry Cavill, is not in the party!
The shock is great: after almost 10 years, Henry Cavill confirmed that he still would not return in the form of Superman. Cavill teased a secure future for his Superman back in October. Now, he has let his fans know via Instagram that his journey as Superman is coming to an end. He’s sad, but that’s life. He respects that Peter Safran and James Gunn want to build a new universe and I wish them the best of luck.

This sounds pretty definite. Meanwhile, James Gunn tweeted that they had a good talk with Cavill and are currently looking for opportunities for him to play another role. He is currently writing a Superman movie script that will show Superman at an earlier stage in his life. Say: Cavill is too old. According to insiders, Gunn has been working on a new Superman script for some time that will feature Clark Kent as a young reporter from Metropolis. This project will also replace the previously announced film by JJ Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Among those on the board is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will focus on the early part of Superman’s life, so this character will not be played by Henry Cavill.

Cavill is far from the only star currently in talks with Gunn and Safran. Ben Affleck is said to have met with the two to explore opportunities for him in directing.
So there’s still a lot to be done in the DCEU. According to Gann, more details should be known in January.
