The third season, consisting of eight parts, is based on Amber Spectatorthe final novel in the award-winning Pullman trilogy.
In Season 3, Will, the wielder of the Thin Blade, and Lyra, the prophesied child, travel across multiple worlds to find and protect each other.
Dan McCulloch, executive producer, said: “At the time we started the first season dark materials, we had all three novels planned so we knew where we were going. Every detail and character in this incredible work of art was analyzed and discussed for four years until finally appearing in many worlds. Amber Spectator exciting”.
Who’s starring in season 3?
Will is played by Amir Wilson, Lyra is played by Dafne Keen, and Ruth Wilson is played by Mrs. Coulter. The new line-up for the third season includes:
- Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Commander Ogunwe;
- Jamie Ward as Father Gomez;
- Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Simon Harrison and Chipo Chang as the rebellious angels Balthamos, Baruch and Xaphania;
- Amber Fitzgerald Wolf as Ama.
The returning line-up includes:

When is that?
The first episode of the third season will air on BBC One on Sunday 18 December at 7pm. There are eight episodes in total. It will also be available on BBC iPlayer.
