Tip of the Day: Vardy vs. Rooney: Courtroom Drama
The so-called “Wagata Christie” trial, in which Rebecca Vardy (footballer Jamie’s wife) sued Colin Rooney for defamation, caused a lot of hilariousness earlier this year, as well as revealing hidden snobbery in numerous comments. This two-part re-enactment of the events at the London Crown Court was intended to show this condescending attitude towards women, but in reality this simple retelling based on court documents is all the better. This is EnglandChanel Creswell plays Rooney, Natalia Tena (game of Thrones) – Vardy, and Michael Sheen and Simon Kouri – lawyers.
BBC Sportsperson of the Year 2022
Gary Lineker (probably in dark color from Qatar), Claire Balding, Gabby Logan and Alex Scott present a live stream of the MediaCityUK ceremony in Salford as key sporting moments of the year are discussed and Emma Raducanou’s successor is crowned after a public vote. Beth Mead, top scorer of England’s Euro 2022 triumph, and Ben Stokes, ICC World T20 cricketer, are both expected to compete (the former being the bookies’ clear favourite). The 69th production of the show will also feature unsung heroes in local communities who inspire grassroots work.
Christmas at Westminster Abbey: Behind Closed Doors
The cameras return to the abbey for this special seasonal edition, in which clergy, sacristans and members of the choir prepare for major services and state occasions during the festive period. The season starts with Advent. Canon Canon Bob leads this dramatic service, during which several candles are suspended in the air while the singers rehearse Christmas songs and a giant Christmas tree appears.
Wiener blood
Max and Oscar (Matthew Beard and Jurgen Maurer) find themselves in the opium dens of 1908 Vienna after Max uses his neurological knowledge to help a retired soldier – a veteran of the Chinese Boxer Rebellion – who is convinced he is being tortured by ghosts. It’s like a tragic case of trauma-induced paranoia when the captain is revealed to have committed a horrific suicide. But Max and Oscar aren’t convinced.
Inside the M&S for Christmas
This latest documentary/free retail commercial shows how Marks & Spencer prepares for the important holiday season by keeping an eye on colleagues and suppliers at all levels, from farm to factory to store. At the Silverlink store in Newcastle, cameras follow an enthusiastic manager, Rob, as he gathers his troops to get the food and drink department ready.
Lionesses: Champions of Europe
It looks like the BBC is expecting England striker Beth Mead, the top scorer in Euro 2022 this summer, to win Sportsman of the Year tonight, if we’re allowed to follow this documentary’s schedule. Meade is one of the key figures in the victorious England women’s team, including captain Leah Williamson and manager Sarina Wigman. Gabby Logan, Ian Wright, Alex Scott and Farah Williams also share their thoughts on a big summer for women’s football.
