This year usually has a very busy Christmas TV schedule, from holiday dramas and comedy specials to ghost stories.
Plenty of choice means it pays to be ready for that Christmas moment when many of us slumped gratefully on the couch after a sumptuous dinner—these are all the highlights of this big day.
Nutcracker Matthew Bourne!

Every Christmas, only a handful of theater goers get to see choreographer Matthew Bourne’s magnificent ballets, so many thanks to the BBC for bringing them to our televisions. This year’s achievements Nutcracker, which will follow the orphaned Clara on her journey to Sweetieland, a decadent world inspired by 1930s Hollywood musicals. All, of course, on the beautiful score of Tchaikovsky.

It’s not Christmas without a new cartoon from Julia Donaldson. The Red Smeds and Blue Smoos don’t get along, but when Janet, Smed, meets Bill, Smoo, they decide to run away together, leaving the two camps to work together to find them. BridgetonAdjoa Andoh of Adjoa Andoh and comedian Bill Bailey are among those who provided their voices for the 30-minute special.
Dancing with the Stars Christmas Special

Michael McIntyre’s disgusting game show is fast becoming a classic. In this celebratory version, Michael Ball, Rosie Jones, etiquette expert William Hanson, Fleur East, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, AJ Odudu and Bill Bailey take their places on the swivel chairs as Gino D’Acampo, Alyosha Dixon and Bear Grylls answer questions.
A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story

After the recent train derailment, the midwives have left the Nonnatus home while it is being renovated and are delighted to see the first patient, Rhoda Mullax (Liz White), who has delivered on the ward several times, at the door. Other cases include a mother-to-be fresh out of prison while Fred (Cliff Parisi) is hosting the Poplartunity Knocks talent show.
