Something is wrong Be sure to come and dance, according to the legions of internet trolls outraged by contestant Leighton Williams’ previous dance experiences. “He can dance too well,” they shout. And even worse.
Bad education and the West End star has risen high in the 2023 cast amid almost immediate “cheating” rumors, having previously danced professionally in major productions while also singing. Billy Elliott AND There’s something about Jamie.
Indeed, he and professional dancer Nikita Guzman were at or near the top of the leaderboard every week.
For some viewers, this simply isn’t a problem. Of course, they say, the spirit Strict is only supported by the brave amateurs who “try” and their flawless performances week after week are an insult to the die-hards that this show is really about.
To which I would like to say: nonsense. For so many reasons. Let’s find out why at least one really good dancer is an integral part of Be sure to come and dance Format whether you like it or not.

It depends on the texture. When I sit down to watch this particular piece of entertainment, my needs are limited but specific. I want to take my mind off all the terrible things around me. I want to see varied, colorful, distracting dance routines in the rehearsal room with minimal effort. And I want the dances to be of varying quality, so that I can decide which ones I like and which ones I don’t, like a bored emperor running his finger over a flag.
Williams is not a ballroom or Latin dancer, but he is an incredible performer who apparently stays in shape, has stamina, and has full control of his limbs. He is undoubtedly a much better dancer than most other celebrities. Strict This year.
But imagine that Be sure to come and dance were “just” a dance competition.
Teleplays are, at best, mass hallucinations. We are all hypnotized by shiny floors and think that the end result is important, when only the path to it is important.
Game show grand finals continue to receive some of the highest ratings among increasingly fragmented viewing audiences. Most of the time, the developments are almost hysterical, as the menacing soundtrack and loud voiceovers keep us on the edge of our seats. Part of the fun is the great emotional shock that the end result will bring.
It’s simply because we’ve already invested so much emotion (and time) by staying on the show for weeks, watching brilliant dancers surprise us and inexperienced dancers improve. But the truth is that when everyone’s on Be sure to come and dance If I learned to dance very slowly, I would be bored, and so would you. It’s no wonder that every show is accompanied by professional dancers doing what they do best. An hour and a half of average dancing is not necessary.

I say again: Be sure to come and dance This is a TV show, not a dance competition. It needs structure, peaks and valleys, disasters and triumphs. What is completely unnecessary is everyday reality.
These are not amateur dancers depending on the outcome of a show for a life-changing amount of money. These are highly paid celebrities with little to lose and everything to gain from fame (and by the time they’re halfway through the series, they’ll have all the fame and career advancement they wanted).
More importantly, if I haven’t convinced you by now, Layton’s incredible display of fleet-footed talent may get him close to the Glitterball trophy, but he won’t win. He’s almost certain to make it to the finals, and that’s bound to happen. His dazzling presence makes it that much more exciting.
But he won’t win. The same British public that screams “unfairness” when a competitor is too fast and too good will always choose the underdog, no matter who he is. Like a rocket attached to a space capsule on the launch pad, it flies high, but at the crucial moment after completing its task, it falls.
If the thought of a really good, trained dancer lifting that plastic trophy really upsets you, rest easy. It will not happen.
