The giants that “Robot Dreams” faces at the Oscars: Spiderman, Hayao Miyazaki, Pixar and Netflix

Euskaraz irakurri: ‘Robot Dreams’ filmak erraldoiei aurre egin beharko die Oscar sarietan: Spiderman, Miyazaki, Pixar and Netflix

It won’t be easy “Robot Dreams”. The film by the Bilbao filmmaker will compete at the Oscars against the greatest titans of the animation genre worldwide, such as the Japanese Hayao Miyazaki with his work “The Boy and the Heron” and the (almost) always infallible Pixar with “Elementary”.

And not only that. As if that were not enough, he will also compete for the statuette with two other giants of the genre: the new and successful animated Spider-man film, “Crossing the multiverse”and a Netflix production, “Nimona”.

However, there are also reasons for optimism since, to obtain the nomination, the Basque director’s film has managed to beat one of the great commercial successes of the year, “Super Mario Bros.: the movie”.

“The Boy and the Heron”

The nomination of the latest work by the Japanese animation magician, which already left a great taste in the mouth at Zinemaldia, was one of those that were ‘sung’. With two Oscars behind him, Miyazaki will always be a favorite.

“Elementary”

While “Elemental” may not have the polish of the studio’s previous masterpieces like “Wall-E,” “Up” or “Toy Story,” Pixar knows the Oscar-winning formula well. Not in vain, he has obtained 18 statuettes in just over 30 years of life.

“Spider-Man: Crossing the Multiverse”

The wall-crawler has always been a gold mine for Hollywood, mainly in live-action films, but in recent years also in animated films, with great critical successes such as “Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse.” It is one of the great favorites.

“Nimona”

Although it may seem like the least known of the shortlist of rivals for “Robot Dreams”, critics have elevated “Nimona” as one of the best films of 2023. And be careful, Netflix is behind it.
