Canadian actor Ryan GoslingKen in the multi-award-winning “Barbie”, has expressed disappointment after the Hollywood Academy did not nominate the director of the film, Greta Gerwigand its protagonist, the Australian Margot Robbie to the 2024 Oscars. “To say that I am disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” he said in a statement published after yesterday the Academy nominated him as Best Supporting Actor for the aforementioned role.
“There is no Ken without Barbie and there is no “Barbie” movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this historic and globally celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone in the film without their talent, courage and genius “added the protagonist of “La La Land”.
“Barbie”, a film based on Mattel’s fashion dolls of the same name, was the iconic doll’s first live-action film after numerous animated films and tells the journey of self-discovery of the character played by Robbie and their interaction with the real world. In total received yesterday eight nominations, including best film and best supporting actor and actress (Gosling and América Ferrera). But neither Gerwig nor Robbie entered their categories, best director and best actress, respectively. “They should be recognized along with other very deserving nominees,” Gosling insisted.
