Basque Government and BBVA Foundation create the Xabier Lete Scholarship to promote literary creation in Basque

Euskaraz irakurri: Jaurlaritzak eta BBVA Fundazioak Xabier Lete Beka sortu dute, euskarazko literature sustatzeko

The Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy, Bingen Zupiriaand the director of Institutional Relations of the BBVA Foundation, Silvia Churrucahave presented a collaboration agreement to promote literary creation in Basque through the creation of the Xabier Lete Scholarship.

Thanks to this cooperation 70,000 euros will be awarded to writers to be able to dedicate themselves entirely to their literary project in Basque for a year. The scholarships are aimed at authors in the process of consolidation with the aim of facilitating the development of their literary talent and promoting clear progress in their literary career.

This is a project resulting from the commitment of both institutions to supporting creative talent, as well as promoting reading and the creation of content in Basque.

The objective of the scholarship is to provide authors, during the period of validity of the scholarship, with the conditions that allow them to tackle an ambitious or highly complex project.

This is an annual scholarship for writers in the process of consolidation, for the creation of an original novel in Basque. They will be considered to be “in the process of consolidation” when it comes to people who have published and marketed at least one novel in Basque.
