Filming of the feature film “Pheasant Island” begins on the banks of the Bidasoa

Irun, Hendaye, San Sebastián and Baiona will host the filming of the feature film over the next six weeks Pheasant Islandthe feature debut of Asier Urbieta, in which EITB participates.

Co-written with Andoni de Carlos (Handia), it is a “border thriller” that is filmed in Basque, French and Spanish and stars Jone Laspiur (Akelarre, Anne, Negu hurbilak, which hits theaters tomorrow) and debutant Sambou Diaby. In addition, it has the special collaboration of Itziar Ituño and Josean Bengoetxea.

Pheasant Island is the smallest condominium in the world, a river islet at the mouth of the Bidasoa, in the muga whose management has left several people dead in recent years, when they were preparing to cross between Irun and Hendaia.

Precisely, in the film, the appearance of a corpse on Pheasant Island bursts into the lives of Laida and Sambou, a young couple who live on the border of Bidasoa.

The scriptwriters explain that ‘Pheasant Island is a thriller with a deep emotional charge that tells the absurdity of borders and the human consequences that derive from them. “This film shows a reality that is currently happening on the banks of the Bidasoa, where in the last year a dozen people have disappeared trying to cross into France.”
