The works committee of the BOS, Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, has called two rallies – one for this Thursday at the Arenal and another next Saturday at the Arriaga theater – in protest at the unfilled positions due to sick leave, permits or vacant positions. .
The committee frames this refusal to fill vacancies in the “policy of financial cuts” that is being applied to the Orchestra and that has led to the disappearance of ten positions in the last decade.
The workers’ representatives consider that “the criterion of reducing spending takes precedence over the purpose for which the Orchestra was created: musical quality and social work.”
For this reason, they demand that this agreement prioritize “the artistic” and “not just the economic” and that there be “budgetary respect” for the coverage of the current workforce.
