The 72nd edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival includes a total of 20 titles with Basque production spread across almost all its sections, including two of them in the Official Section, according to the director of the Zinemaldia, José Luis Rebordinos, at the presentation of Zinemira.
In Zinemira, This section is entirely dedicated to Basque productions. Nine works will be on offer, eight of which will be competing for the Irizar Award, for having their world premiere at the Zinemaldia. The prize will consist of 20,000 euros for the producers.
Non-fiction The Williamsof Raul de la Fuenteabout the two brothers who play for Athletic Club de Bilbao and their family history, will open the section, which will be closed by Chaplin, Gypsy Spiritthe actress’s feature film debut Carmen Chaplin.

Also in the running are: This is not Hollywooda documentary of Jone Ibarretxe from Cal and Nere Falagan Martin about the Ibarretxe brothers, pioneers of Basque audiovisuals, and Lolo’s powers (of Miguel Alba Rico, Nino Fontán and Itziar Bernaola) focused on the creator of the legendary television program ‘La bola de cristal’, as well as Zortzitik infinitythe directorial debut of Naia Laka Arrizubieta.

It will also be eligible for the Irizar Award Iciar Bollainwho is once again a candidate with I am Nevenkaa film that competes in the Official Section.

Elena Irureta, Zinemira 2024 award
He Zinemira Awardwhich is presented at the Great Basque Film Gala, is the honorary award given by the San Sebastian Festival and the association of producers EPE-IBAIA to the career of a prominent personality, program or institution of Basque cinema, and will recognize this edition the actress, screenwriter and director Elena Irureta (Zumaia, 1955).
Irureta graduated from the first class of the Antzerti School of Dramatic Arts in San Sebastian. His first works were linked to theatre, with plays such as Arlequino Servidor de Dos Amos or Las Troyanas and with the birth of ETB, the Basque public television, in series such as Bi eta bat or Jaun ta Jabe. His longest-running work on television, which lasted for eleven seasons, from 1999 to 2009, was the series El comisario.
In the cinema, she has worked in more than thirty films with filmmakers such as Juanma Bajo Ulloa (in La madre muerta and Airbag), Julio Medem (La ardilla roja), Daniel Calparsoro (A ciegas), Ramon Barea in both feature films (Pecata minuta) and short films (Adiós, Toby, adiós) and on three occasions with Iciar Bollain: Hola, ¿estás sola?, Flores de otro mundo or Te doy mis ojos. She has also taken part in some of the most important works in Basque cinema such as Aupa Etxebeste!, Zorion Perfektua, Urte berri on, amona, Igelak or Agur Etxebeste!. Her performance as Bittori in the series Patria, created by Aitor Gabilondo, where she again coincided with her partner in Bi eta bat, Ane Gabarain, earned her the Platinum Award, the José María Forque Award and the Feroz Award.
