It’s no secret that after the closure of cinemas, especially US blockbusters such as Spiderman: No Way Home, Top Shooter: Maverick as well as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever brought many people back to cinemas. On the contrary, small films, which are mostly seen in art-house cinemas, are still a bit sluggish. Especially the older audience did not dare to return en masse. But now Swiss cinemas are showing a film that seems to be bringing that audience back.

we are talking about golden years. Since its release on October 27, the film has already sold 45,402 tickets in German-speaking Switzerland. This makes Barbara Kulsar’s comedy the most successful Swiss feature film since the start of the pandemic.

The most striking thing about this is that the film is garnering recognition – almost silently and covertly, but steadily – behind big boxes of blockbusters. It hasn’t made it to the top of the weekend charts yet, but for the past two weeks the film has held up well at number three, while the rest of the top 10 shows a lot of movement.

golden years It seems to be a film that moviegoers recommend to their friends and relatives. Claudia Badoer and Yves Blösche from distributor Filmcoopi Zurich see it in the same way: “We are particularly pleased with the excellent word of mouth. This is also reflected in the number of hospitalizations, which increased by 80 percent in the second weekend.”

This, of course, is a balm for the souls of small cameramen, who have had a hard time in recent years.
